Grab your coats and grease your spokes ladies and gentlemen! Fort Stevenson State Park is hosting its Flakes of Fury Fat Tire Bike Race. Test your endurance and battle the elements by completing this 12- mile race. The course will take you to the north shores of Lake Sakakawea and through the prairie and woodlands of Fort Stevenson State Park.
Saturday, January 23rd, the event begins at Fort Stevenson State Park’s Visitor Center. Race starts at 1 PM and ends when the last participant finishes (official timing will end at 3 PM). Pre-register to reserve your spot. Advance registration is open from midnight on January 1 to noon on January 22.
Race Details:
The timed race begins at 1 PM and ends at 3 PM. All riders must register online. The race route will be a series of laps (4 laps) that start at the Visitor’s Center. Race course is approximately 12 miles long.
Route:
The race course will begin on the roadway at the entrance to the Visitor Center parking lot. Bikers will enter Flicker Loop just before prairie dog town. The route will follow Flicker Loop until it merges into Purple Coneflower Trail and then stay on Purple Coneflower Trail until it merges with deTrobiand Loop (north portion). Bikers will then exit deTrobriand Loop at the Trooper Forest sign and ride back to the starting/finish line for their laps.
Terrain:
The track is relatively level. It will begin with asphalt, however, throughout the course, it may or may not turn to groomed snow and ice and/or grass and dirt, all depending on the weather. Either way, bikers will have to power through the trail.
Awards will be mailed out following the conclusion of the race when all times have been documented. Follow our social media page for times and winners. Awards will be given to the fastest time in the following categories:
